Playspace now re-opened

The playspace works have now completed and the playspace has been re-opened for you to enjoy using.

Please remember that dogs are not allowed in the playspace.

What is planned?

We are upgrading the existing small playspace and improving some of the park infrastructure and furniture in the reserve. The playspace fencing and both maintenance gates have been upgraded along with the new gathering space at the Colliers Crescent end of the reserve.

We are currently installing the playspace at the Union Street end of Wylie Reserve. These works will complete end July 2023, when the remaining play item is installed. There will be periods of time with limited activity on site as we are waiting on the play supplier's availability for installing.

Please note that we have never had any intention of removing existing trees in Wylie Reserve. We are also planning to plant a few additional feature trees. Existing trees are also shown on the concept plan.

Final concept plan

Thanks for your comments on the revised concept plan. We have completed the final concept plan, using your feedback. The final concept plan can be seen below.

A summary of the consultation to date can be found here: Consultation summary report

What is not changing

  • Overall playspace footprint cannot be made larger owing to offsets needed from the adjacent sports field and adjacent footpath. Playspace can only remain in current area of reserve and can't accommodate large play items (e.g. flying fox).
  • Fencing around the playspace will be retained though may be upgraded.
  • Adjacent community facilities (e.g. Hockey Club, kinder, new public toilet works) are outside of the scope of this project.
  • There is not the space or budget to provide fitness equipment under this project.
  • Sports fields are outside the scope of this project.
  • The reserve will remain a dog off-leash area and not be changed under this project. Similarly, dog bags/dispensers are not part of this scope of works.

Final Concept Plan

The plan below shows the final concept design for the playspace at the Collier Crescent end of Wylie Reserve.

Improvements in this space are:

  • Formalised gathering space with replacement BBQ and picnic setting away from existing tree, accessible drinking fountain with dog bowl.
  • Colourful garden bed with native shrubs.
  • Slight repositioning of BBQ, furniture and garden beds to minimise impacts on adjacent established trees.
  • Improved maintenance entries with gravel paving and maintenance gates.

Please note that all existing trees are being retained with additional feature trees and garden beds provided.
