Screening of 'First Australians' Episode

This event is designed to open a conversation with the community on the impacts and consequences of dispossession and racism and encourage respectful understanding through education and truth telling. The First Australians documentary explores what unfolds when the oldest living culture in the world is overrun by the world's greatest empire.

The episode we are screening, the third episode of this documentary series, is significant because it is highly recommended by the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders.

The episode begins in 1860 in Victoria and, through the lives of Wurundjeri Elders Simon Wonga and William Barak, explores broader issues facing Aboriginal people in these times.

The screening will be followed up by a facilitated conversation led by Jason Mifsud.

A man is in 3/4 profile to the camera. He has brown eyes, dark hair and tanned skin. He wears a blue suit jacket and white shirt.

Jason Mifsud

Jason Mifsud is a proud and active member of the Kirrae, Peek and Tjab Whurrong people of the Gunditjmara nation in south-west Victoria.
