Moreland’s “Park Close to Home” plan is about improving access to open space across Moreland. The aim of the plan is to ensure the Moreland community live within 500 metres walking distance to a park or open space, and within 300 metres for those living in our busiest areas.

As part of this plan, we have purchased the property at 260 Sydney Rd in the heart of Brunswick (opposite the Brunswick Town hall, facing Sydney Road) to turn it into a public open space.

The Future Open Space at 260 Sydney Rd

We want to collaborate closely with the community while we design this open space, to ensure 260 Sydney Road is well-suited to the people who will use it. We’ll be collecting ideas and doing community consultation at different stages of the project. See the timeline for more information.

Our first round of submissions is now closed. We received 60 comments about what people want to see on the site including:

  • Grassed areas
  • Trees & garden beds
  • Places to sit under shade and open air
  • Outdoor games & activities
  • Kids play spaces
  • Art installations

The Temporary Park – Opening Soon

It’s going to take about two years to prepare the land, design, plan and install a permanent park. We know 2 years can feel like a long time to wait so in the meantime we’re about to open a temporary “pop-up” park. The land will be mostly unchanged but there will be places to sit and things for you to enjoy with your friends and family. The space will allow us to test options for the permanent park and ask the community about what works, what doesn’t and what you want from your open spaces.

The twosixty Program

While the temporary park is open we will host a program of public events to activate and test the space.

Anyone can host an event on the site, as long as it fits within the program guidelines. Visit for more information and to submit an expression of interest.
