We're preparing a new improved design for the Melville-Moreland Shopping Strip, located at the corner of Melville and Moreland Road in Brunswick West.

This project forms part of Moreland Council's Shopping Strip Renewal Program.

The aim is to improve the overall presentation of this shopping strip and the pedestrian experience.

Key improvements will include:

  • New footpaths.
  • Pedestrian threshold crossings.
  • Landscaping including new trees and plantings.
  • Street furniture such as seats, bins and a drinking fountain.
  • Traffic calming treatments.


Construction commencing soon

The feedback received from the two stages of consultation has informed the development of the Final Concept Plan. Construction preparation for this project is currently underway. The project will be delivered across two financial years.


Changes to Stop 40 Moreland Rd & Melville Rd by The Department of Transport and Yarra Trams

The Department of Transport and Yarra Trams are introducing new E-Class trams on Route 58 later this year. A few changes are needed along the route to ensure passengers can safely access the longer E-Class trams.

Changes to Stop 40 Moreland Rd & Melville Rd will include:

  • West Coburg bound stop: Kerb change, permanent no stopping signs and road linemarking. Four car parking spaces will be removed to provide safer access for passengers between the footpath and trams. .
  • Toorak bound stop: Permanent no stopping signs and road linemarking. One car parking space will be removed.


Construction works will begin for approximately a week in October 2021.
