Updating park sign

Council will be updating the existing park sign to reflect its new name of Citadel Park. This will be undertaken over May/June 2023. As part of these works the existing sign blades will be taken down by our nominated contractor and then re-installed with the new artwork attached.

The new park is now open

We’ve created a new park at 132-134 Cardinal Road, Glenroy, as a part of ‘A Park Close to Home’ project.

The ‘A Park Close to Home’ project aims to make sure every household in Merri-bek has access to green open space to enjoy.

After an extended community submissions process, Council created a shortlist of suggested names for the community to vote on. They are displayed below in a randomised order.

  • Stewart Murray Park

After an Indigenous rights activist, WW2 soldier & Glenroy resident.

  • Bagung Djerring Park

Means 'gather together' in Woi-Wurrung language.

  • Walert Park

    Meaning 'possum' in Woi-Wurrung language.

  • Yubup Park

  • Citadel Park

Named after a place of worship/meeting for the Salvation Army

  • Topluluk Park

All votes will be counted, the name with the majority of votes will become the official name of the park (subject to Council approval).
